The exhibition Lebenszeichen Verena presents Manfred Paul’s long-term photographic project, in which he portrayed his wife Verena over four decades (1971–2011) in intimate moments of her life—as a mother giving birth, a dancer, an artist, a lover, and as his counterpart. Born in 1942 and raised in what later became the GDR, Paul belongs to a generation of artists whose work was shaped by two political systems. His photographs bear witness to an ongoing dialogue—imbued with time, change, transience, and memory.
